Cloud Phone Systems

What is Cloud Phone Systems?

Cloud phone systems are a type of phone network setup usually found within a call center. These setups are cloud-based and hosted off-site. The virtual systems are cost-effective and more efficient than traditional on-premise phone setups. Cloud phone systems are easy to scale since they use bulky, on-site hardware. There are no extra charges for long-distance calls, and they generally don’t require extra equipment other than VoIP phones. VoIP, or Voice Over Internet Protocol, allows agents to make and receive calls over the internet. Cloud phone systems provide call centers with numerous features such as voicemail, caller ID, call recording, IVR, and more.

Cloud phone systems are offered through providers in exchange for a monthly service fee. The provider can help the call center with setup and implementation and offer troubleshooting support if needed. Cloud systems are ideal for remote work settings since agents can connect to work from anywhere with an internet connection. Many call centers opt for cloud phone systems since the equipment and maintenance required for on-site PBX systems can be expensive and time consuming to install. If a call center with an on-site PBX system faces network problems, repair can take long and many times requires a technician experienced with that call center’s specific PBX hardware manufacturer.

It’s simple for call centers to add changes to a cloud phone system. Most will allow users to make changes, such as the addition of new lines, either through an online portal or with a quick call to their customer support team.

What’s the Difference Between On-prem and Cloud PBX? – LiveVox

Cloud PBX systems are much more hands-off. Since a provider hosts the entire PBX setup virtually, they are the ones responsible for troubleshooting. Contact centers don’t need to worry about maintaining or fixing any hardware. The maintenance is covered by a fee the hosted PBX provider charges a company each month.
